My Expanding List of Things I Find Intriguing About Molokaʻi:
- Guinness World Records lists the highest sea cliffs in the world being on Molokaʻi near Umilehi Point at 3,300 ft (1,010 m).
- The two highest waterfalls in the United States are on Molokaʻi. Oloʻupena Falls (2,953 ft) and Puʻukaʻoku Falls (2756 ft). Oloʻupena Falls is over twice the height of the Empire State Building.
- On January 6, 1866 the first group of 12 leprosy victims were dropped off near Kalawao Peninsula. More than 8,500 men, women and children were exiled to the colony.
- Kaunakakai Wharf is the longest in Hawaiʻi at 1900 ft.
- Molokaʻi is our only island with two counties - Maui County and Kalawao County.
